In March 2012, Numurkah and surrounding districts were devastated by floods. These floods caused severe damage to the local hospital, causing the building to be demolished and rebuilt.
Prior to the flood, there was an old-fashioned pine playground positioned out the front of the health service.
This playground was of course very popular with children and visiting relatives of the hospital and a crucial part of the inclusion in the rebuild of the facilities.
With the addition of a General Practice, Dental and pathology services to the new Hospital and Community Health buildings we anticipate the need for a modern playground for children who will be attending the service themselves or visiting relatives.
The hospital presented to KidzFix the need for a bright, safe, inviting area for children, many of whom have not just suffered through illness but also through floods and more recently the fires that have affected the area.
For us, it was a clear need, directly supporting sick children and impacting their experience in hospital and other health services, ultimately improving their chance of recovery.
